Nepali homes welcome Fulpati today

KATHMANDU: In regard to ongoing Dashain festival, it’s Saptami and Hindu Nepali houses are welcoming fulpati, the seventh day of Dashain festival, accordingly on Sunday. On the day, a collection of sacred shrubs that are offered to goddess Durga is taken into the Dashain Ghar at Hanumandhoka, Basantapur Durbar Square in the Capital. Similarly, all Hindus across the country also bring Phulpati in their home. Fulpati, the procession bearing jamara and other items necessary for tika, is carried on foot from Gorkha to Kathmandu through Dhading. From Dhading six Brahmin priests carry them to Jamal, Kathmandu. From Jamal, the Fulpati filled with holy water, banana stalks, jamara and sugar cane tied with red cloth is carried to the Dashain Ghar today.

From today the festive season of Dashain will blossom fully. Government offices will be closed, and people are returning their homes in various parts of Nepal to receive tika and blessings from elders.

At villages, linge ping will make additional features for the celebration.The day is followed by Astami, the eighth day, Nawami, the ninth day and Bijaya Dashami falls on the 10th day—the day when elderly offer to tika and jamara with prasad.
