Rara Festival in March/April

KATHMANDU: In a bid to promote tourism in the Rara area of Mugu district and intensify the marketing of the local products, a Rara Festival is going to be organized in coming Baisakh (March/April).

The Rara Lake, Rara National Park, Karnali water cruise, herbs, fruits and natural beauty are some of the attractions of the Karnali region where two festivals have already been held.

According to the District Development Committee Mugu and Nepal Tourism Board, the Karnali region, despite being rich in tourist destinations, was still in shadow for its distant and difficult geography.

The District Development Committee and the Tourism Board organized an interaction in this connection in the capital on Wednesday.

Local Development Officer at Mugu, Bharat Gautam, and Festival Coordinator, Raju Karki spoke about the touristic importance of Rara area and garnered suggestion from the stakeholders to make the festival successful. According to them, the date for the festival would be fixed after discussion.

Speakers at the interaction said the local associations in Karkani need to explore the potential areas of tourism, manage accommodation to the domestic and foreign tourists and come up with package programmes to develop tourism in the region. Similarly, they suggested the government to encourage investment in the Rara Festival with special discount.

Those expressing views at the interaction were Chairman of Tourist Guide Association Hareram Baral, Director at Tourism Board Hikmat Singh Aire, Chairman of Nepal River Rafting Association Nani Kaji Thapa and others.

They urged the political parties to help make Festival successful.
