Dolpo Tarap Valley Trek – 16 days

A demanding trek into one of the remotest regions of Nepal.
The region offers opportunities to visit ancient villages, high passes, beautiful Lakes, isolated monasteries and also to experience the vast array of wildlife inhabiting the region, including blue sheep, mountain goat, jackal, wolf and the legendary snow leopard. The people follow an amalgam of Buddhist, Bon, Shaman and Hindu traditions and behind many houses throughout Dolpo, you will find carved wooden faces, dok-pa, which offer protection against evil spirits.

Some people have the idea that trekking is all sweat and hard work with no fun. This is far from the truth. Days are designed to be challenging, but not exhausting. When you choose the Dolpo Tarap Valley Trek, days begin with breakfast at the tea house you stay.  You will need to pack up your duffle bags before breakfast, as porters will set off early. To cover the magnificent sun rays that strike on the mountains, you will be on the trail by around 8 am. A lunch stop for a leisurely lunch will be around noon. Lunch usually takes about 2 hours, allowing plenty of time to explore the village or relax. The afternoon walk is shorter and you usually arrive around 4pm leaving time for excursions to nearby sites, nunneries, exploration of the village or simply relaxing with a book and catching up on your diary. Dinner is generally around 7pm.

  • The desolate, charming landscape and mountains
  • Walk the complete famous Demon Trail from the movie Himalaya from Eric Vallie
  • High passes along the way with height of more than 5,000m.
  • Encounter with villagers who are descendants of Tibet lowlands
  • View Nepal’s highest waterfall, the Suligad Waterfall
