Everest Cho La Pass Trek | Everest Region Trek -Royal Mountain Travel - Nepal

Everest Cho La Pass Trek – 18 days

A challenging trek encompassing all the very best that the region has to offer.

Following the exciting mountain flight into Lukla, we trek to the Sherpa market town of Namche Bazaar. Continuing up the Gokyo Valley there are excellent views of the Thamserku and Kang Taiga summits. From Gokyo Peak the 360-degree panorama is stunning – snow peaks, Nepal’s largest glacier, moraine and tranquil glacial lakes. From here, descend to cross the glacier and moraine to the east and the pass of Cho La or Chhugyuma (5,420m). Between rocky walls the route leads to the Khumbu valley where Gorak Shep provides the opportunity to ascend Kala Pattar for more spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, including the black rocky ramparts of Everest’s southwest face. The return is via Tengboche Gompa, the most important Buddhist center of the region with the imposing peak of Thamserku looming over the trail.

Some people have the idea that trekking is all sweat and hard work with no fun. This is far from the truth. Days are designed to be challenging, but not exhausting. When you choose the Everest Cho La Pass Trek, days begin with breakfast at the tea house you stay.  You will need to pack up your duffle bags before breakfast, as porters will set off early. To cover the magnificent sun rays that strike on the mountains, you will be on the trail by around 8 am. A lunch stop for a leisurely lunch will be around noon. Lunch usually takes about 2 hours, allowing plenty of time to explore the village or relax. The afternoon walk is shorter and you usually arrive around 4pm leaving time for excursions to nearby sites, nunneries, exploration of the village or simply relaxing with a book and catching up on your diary. Dinner is generally around 7pm.
