From October 1, Cathay Airlines will operate flights between Hong Kong and Kathmandu.

Beginning on October 1, Cathay Airlines will offer direct flights between Hong Kong and Kathmandu.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has granted the flag carrier of Hong Kong permission to operate one flight each week (on Saturday), according to CAAN spokesperson Jagannath Niruala.

Niraula claims that the airline’s authority has already finished the necessary steps to operate direct flights. While the CAAN is debating whether to provide the airline a slot beyond 8:00pm, the airline has requested a 12:00pm to 1:00pm time slot, he said.

Nepal Airlines currently provides service between Kathmandu and Hong Kong as well as the other way around.

Hong Kong is recognized as an important aviation destination because of the strength of the Nepali diaspora there.

There are now 26 international airlines operating flights to and from Tribhuvan International Airport, including two Nepali airlines.

There are direct flights from Nepal to international carriers that operate in 21 different countries.
