China is considering extending a railway line linking the country to Nepal via a tunnel under Mount Everest, according to Chinese state media.
The Qinghai-Tibet railway already links the rest of China with the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, and beyond, and an extension running as far as the international border is already being planned “at Nepal’s request”, the China Daily quoted a railway expert at the Chinese Academy of Engineering as saying. KATHMANDU, May 22: The government is organizing various programs to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the first ascent of the Mt Everest.
“On May 26, International Everest Conference will be held in Khumjung, tree plantation program will be carried out at Hillary Park and paper presentation will be made by experts on mountaineering and climate change,” Subash Nirola, officiating CEO of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), told a press meet on Wednesday.National and international experts in tourism and mountaineering have been invited to attend the conference. KATHMANDU, MAY 22 – The highest peak in the world, Mt Everest, has seen a historic number of successful climbers this year. According to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, 467 climbers successfully reached the highest point on earth from Nepal or the south side as of Wednesday. And, the spring expedition on Everest is yet to be over.

KATHMANDU: An 80-year-old Japanese mountaineer on Thursday became the oldest person to reach the top of Mount Everest — although his record may last only a few days. An 81-year-old Nepalese man, who held the previous record, plans his own ascent next week.

The government has decided to organise a three-day event to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee (60th Anniversary) of the first ascent of the Mt Everest. According to government officials, the gala event has been planned from May 27-29.
